Dynamic Temporal & Tactile Cueing

Dynamic Temporal & Tactile Cueing is an approach targeted towards children with moderate to severe Childhood Apraxia of Speech. This intervention is motor based, and is geared toward bettering the child's communication between their brain and articulators. Targets are specified toward what the child, and various types of cues can be utilized (spoken, visual, auditory, tactile, gesture).

This approach is focused on the child's articulatory movement, not necessarily the speech sounds themselves. It is important to note that this approach specifies that cueing is specified toward the child, and that ample practice is needed in each session. There are free workshops online for SLPs to gather more experience before implementing this approach. A speech language pathologist is required to carry out this intervention, as it is very specified.

Research recommends therapy be conduced 3-4 times per week, with each session being approximately 30 minutes in duration. It is also suggested that the total duration of this approach be about a year or less in length before moving onto another approach. The client achieve 90% accuracy across two consecutive sessions for each target.
